Many years and many students. So many that now, when people come up to me in the street and ask me how I am and are obviously delighted to see me, and I have no idea who they are, I simply assume I must have taught them many years ago!
Telephone: (09) 973-4989.

I went to high school and university in Auckland. After completing my PhD, I lectured for a number of years in the Physics department at the University of Auckland. Although I no longer work for the University, I continue to pursue some research in my spare time.

I have a reputation for being quiet, modest, and helpful.

I can also teach statistics. My chemistry and stats are both a little rusty, but I don't charge for any time for which I'm not helpful.

I live near the intersection of Dominion and New North roads, Eden Terrace, and enjoy getting around by bicycle --- so central business district (CBD) and surrounding suburbs is easiest for me (your home, my home, or University, etc.).

I have a part-time job with a roster that changes from week-to-week, but, otherwise, I'm available mornings, afternoons, and evenings, all seven days of the week.

If you need a rapid response, as well as contacting me through Tutors Home, you can try phoning the number quoted above.

Dave is an excellent tutor. Definitely recommended. Dave understands Maths to a very high level and is also able to explain concepts at the level of the student. I'm studying Maths for Business and Dave really helped to apply the concepts to the problem/question.

Dave caters to you specifically as to what you are struggling with/want to learn, but he also promotes structure and discipline. I was struggling, scoring 47.5% on my first assignment, but after working on the foundations of my Math knowledge, it was much easier to understand the new concepts in my last assignment where i earned 92.2%!!

Dave has a good manner and method of teaching. His professional academic background has helped me prepare well for my upcoming exam.

David was my tutor for Maths 102 and Physics 102. David has indepth knowledge and understanding in both Maths and Physics, but more importantly David has the skills to help with any problem.

I am a mature student and this is my first year studying BSc at University of Auckland. In Semester 1, I was faced with many challenges of the new studying environment and the level of learning that is demanded of all students.

I knew from day one that this would be a very challenging semester but it was when I failed my mid semester tests that I turned to look for a tutor. I found David as many students had commented that David is very patient, clear and flexible with his time.

My first session with David, I knew that I had made the right choice. From the very first problem that I attempted to solve in front of David, he was able to pin point exactly what my weaknesses were i.e. missing important steps. Further to this, David was also able to connect these 'mistakes' to my level of understanding on the mathematical concept - which was "I didn't actually understand the mathematical concepts" of that particular problem. So this was the starting point for our tutor sessions.

As I continued to go to David on a weekly basis - my level of understanding improved and so did my performance on these papers.

David is such a great tutor because his passion and understanding of both Maths and Physics is evident in the way that he approaches his role as your tutor: (1) He is patient and works at your pace, he always makes sure that you are confident with each step before moving on to the next step, (2) He is very flexible with his time - David is easy to get a hold of and always tried to make himself available at a time that suited me. David even came out to meet me at one time as I was stressing out before my final exam, (3) He develops your skills - David always makes sure that your level of understanding is developing, he does this by always linking solving problems to understanding the concepts - which I had never done before and I have believe this to be the best skill that I have developed in both Maths and Physics this semester. And I passed my courses!!!!!

I highly recommend David as a tutor, because of these very reasons. He can teach anyone at any level of understanding and he really helps you master the skills not only to successfully complete a problem but to understand so as the problems increase in difficulty - you have the building blocks to increase your ability to solve and understand the problem at a higher level.

Thank you David for all your knowledge and help this Semester!!!! I will be coming back to you for Semester 2 :)

I am a student doing Physics 160 at Auckland University. I have found David Wardle very helpful as a tutor. We are already had 3 sessions and I plan to have more with him as they are of great help and he is very clear and patient with explanations. I would definitely recommend him as a tutor :)

David is an exceptional tutor. He made a lasting first impression on my son and Daniel has asked for David as a tutor often ever since. David helped my son's AS Maths grades improve significantly focussing on Combinations and Permutations. Daniel has remarked on David's thorough teaching style and emphasis on conceptualizing the maths techniques and strategies needed to solve a problem. By looking at the concepts involved Daniel says it makes difficult extensions of a problem immensely easier as the theory behind the problem is made clear. Daniel has also remarked on David's kind and thoughtful nature which makes Daniel feel that David is genuinely trying completely in aiding Daniel to a top maths grade.

Would definitely recommend!

Dr.David helped me with ( first year Biophysics, General and Organic Chemistry, and Statistics )
The number of time we met was 2 days per a week from 2 to 4 hours a day.
Dr.David, have a good communication with student as he was a Patient with me and repeat the problems many time for me to understand and solve any hard problems in easiest way.
I did my Exam well and I did not found any difficulty with problems, and I am willing to get a good mark on my Exams because I did study hard and Dr.David was helping me in my weakness of my study.

David helped my daughter with understanding concepts from Y11 Mathematics - Geometry, Equations & Graphs. Although my daughter has only had 3 sessions with David, it was hugely beneficial for her in preparation for NCEAL1 exam. David has a patient, calming, methodical and logical approach with a unique skill in being able to break down the steps to make complex problems seem quite simple to tackle. He was able to support, guide and 'teach' my daughter in a way that made it easier for her to understand through positive reinforcement and clear explanations. This has made her feel more confident in a subject that has been a struggle. David has the ability to share his knowledge in a way that makes it easier for the learner to understand ... it all started to click into place!! Despite our limited tuition time together, I am confident that we will continue with the tuition next year (Y12 Mathematics) and I fully recommend David as a 1:1 tutor. I have just completed my first year of my Bachelor of Science, majoring in biomedical science. This year I undertook Physics 160 with the help of David. We had five meetings which I found very beneficial. If I ever have to take Physics again I would definitely seek out his help again. He is pleasant, helpful and explains concepts well.

I am a mature student returning to uni for a career change from IT to Vet/Natural Sciences. I haven't done Physics for over 24 years so really needed help grasping concepts and working through problems. I did an intro Summer school paper and met with David 4 or 5 times, and am pleased to report I got an A+ for my paper!

David is kind and methodical and breaks down concepts into more maneagable bites. He allows you to go at your own pace and is quick to spot what the missing gaps might be. I will definitely be using David again for my current Physics paper, he is very helpful plus value for money.

David has been tutoring me in Cambridge Physics AS and A level for 5 weeks now. He has comprehensive knowledge of the syllabus and is able to frame difficult concepts in a way I can understand. I will continue to hire David as my tutor for other subjects as well for the rest of the year. I highly recommend David to anyone wishing to find an exceptional tutor who can explain difficult concepts in a patient and friendly manner.

I am currently a student at Massey university, doing Physics 124.111 as one of my electives.

I have had 3 sessions with David so far, and the experience has been quite positive.

David has a good understanding of topics covered in this paper and is able to explain the concepts in a way that make them accessible.

He is also very patient as a tutor

I highly recommend him.

I have been getting tutoring from David now for 4 sessions and I am very happy with how it is coming along. David is able to walk me slowly through problems and help me at my pace which is important as I have missed a few years of maths at high school. I am at Auckland Uni now and doing Maths 102 which I was finding quite hard, Although with Davids continued help I am confident I will pass with the results I want. I recommend him as a tutor.

Jofina was a great help to me for a process control paper I was taking. I had a chemical engineering background so process control was not particularly easy to pick up for me. Jofina was patient and took the time to make sure I fully understood concepts before moving on.
I would highly recommend Jofina to anyone seeking help for similar engineering papers.

Thank you for your help with my physics. I have passed my exams in the first semester and am also finding your lessons valuable for the engineering statics and dynamics paper. I would recommend you to anyone who needs that extra assistance to do better in their exams.

Jofina tutored me for a semester in electronics circuits.
Without her help I would have had a very difficult time trying to understand the lecture material that was provided from my University. Every lesson Jofina prepared notes and examples that were related to my coursework and that I would need to know in order to achieve a high grade overall in the subject. We spent about 40 hours together and without her help I would have had no chance to pass.

Jofina was always on time and well organised which is very important to me.

Thank you Jofina

Hi Mirko,

I would like to thank you for the time and effort you put into tutoring my daughter. Within a small period of time she was understanding conccepts she had previously found confusing and enjoying the subject of Physics a great deal more. The proof of your effectiveness however, was apparent in her end of year examination marks where she improved from the 60% mark range to over 80%. We thank you for your help and would be happy to recommend you to future students.

I have been tutoring for over 8 years. I have experience in tutoring Maths and other science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) [as well as English]. I was a lecturer and currently am coaching students who want to improve their NCEA, Cambridge or IB grades.

My students always give positive feedback saying they enjoy the sessions and learn lots too. They also comment that they were able to understand the topics and concepts much better.

I often provide notes as well as give students exam-like questions during tuition - a lot of students comment this helps build their confidence.

I am flexible with lots of learning strategies and varied teaching methods. Students often enjoy learning from me since I am not the "monster teacher" type. I believe in a comfortable learning environment and strive to draw out students potential and latent capabilities to achieve performance enhancement.

Tutoring Approach: Fun, creative thinking, students begin to like the subject, improving students problem solving skills.
I am a registered Medical Scientist.

I believe in teaching with examples and fun analagies. Understanding the subject rather than memorising.

I speak and understand English, Hindi and Japanese.

I can tutor students at my home.

The price for tutoring are either per hour or per 45 minutes.

ALL stands for lecture, lab and exam material including further tips on techniques for studying each individual paper and indicating the important areas so no time is wasted on things that are not vital. Avancetutors consists of 3 tutors of the medical and biomedical fields, who have excelled in all core papers. Also, questions may be saved up and presented during each session for answering and as you will receive answers from each tutor, a fully explained answer from all perspectives will be guaranteed.

Not only are we well experienced within the Pre-medicine 1st year content and also understand the pressures of being involved in attain high targets. The workshops offered are aimed at students who have the heart to learn and the will to succeed. This focused in increasing your chances of getting your A+, but it is solely up to you to work for it and grasp it.

Thank you for being part of the programme and please do not hesitate to direct general programme related questions to this email address. Thank you.

All the best,
Michael (AVANCETUTORS coordinator)
We are experienced in teaching English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics and the general sciences from the secondary level up to the 1st year university stage and have a variety of resources to cater for the needs of students. We cover subject areas under the CIE and NCEA curriculums and are very competent as academic prize winners in our own respective tutor subjects.

Due to extensive expereinces we understands the necessary requirements needed to excel in the respective curriculums. Previous students range from as early as year 9 to as advanced as first year biomedical students aiming to become medical students in the following year. For first year biomedical/healthscience students, I offer comprehensive and detailed sessions that allow the students to completely understand and advance beyond the mainstream progress. AVANCETUTORS understand where emphasis should be put with each paper making life just that bit easier and less stressful.

The university schedule currently offers student workshops for Biosci 107, Biosci 101, Chem 110 and Population Health 111 here at locations close to the University of Auckland.

All the tutors of this organisation have been exceptional at the highest levels with the course material and focus on the important aspects, which may not be so obvious to the mainstream. Extensive UMAT and Interview preparation can also be provided as there are booklets and specialised workshops with thorough researched on the topics very thoroughly having applied them to students of 2008 and 2009 and having 10+ students entering the medical programme in the 2008 year group.

Our goal is ensuring the students in 'having the potential to succeed in education'. Through a combination of mentoring and tutoring, AVANCETUTORS aims to encourage academic achievement, raise aspirations and enhance self-confidence.

The most enjoyable thing about tutoring or mentoring is finding a student who has the heart to learn and is always wanting more than what we provide. That way not only will we be able to connect in the subject and look forward to each session, but also excel above the rest.
This year has been yet another successful year in providing help for students throughout all levels in achieving academic success.

A big congratulations goes to our students for attaining entrance into the University of Auckland Medical School programme for 2010:

Avancetutors teaches science and English, subjects I personally have been tutored in. I am from Auckland Grammar School, in 5A and have benefitted greatly from their services. The tutoring lessons have been quite interactive and interesting. The tutors at Avancetutors have helped me answer difficult questions which some of my teachers at school could not explain to me clearly, and have helped me fully understand some concepts. I would like to thank Avancetutors and look forward to future lessons!

Avance tutors, and in particular Michael Tsai to have been an integral component of my success in Biomed first year. As the founder of Avance tutors, Michael has been resourceful in his teaching methods. Not only does Michael have a team of tutors specialised in each paper, but Avance tutors also provides insightful notes personally written by the tutors. In
addition, Avance tutors are able to provide past papers and exemplar questions which are no longer available to students through the university CECIL network. What I have also found useful is Michaelís comprehension and insight into each component of the papers. As his student, youíll be
shown the most important parts of the each course, both for exams and for interest. Michael is also an expert in UMAT and the Medical interview and provides specialist training. The latter is distinctively orientated at University of Auckland Medical interviews.

What I personally found to be the most beneficial part of Avance tutors program was Michaelís active role both as a teacher and a friend. The tutors are made readily accessible to students so that questions can be addressed and clarified quickly. Furthermore, having done the same Biomed prerequisite year, each of the tutors, and in particular Michael
will be able to guide you through a year which promises to be both academically and socially challenging.

AVANCETUTORS is exceptional in every regard. The tutors are extremely focused and clearly understand how to meet the expectations of their students. Their extensive knowledge and enthusiasm show through in the teaching and you begin to share in this as a student. What makes AVANCETUTORS truly unique is that the tutors have personally been through the same experiences as their students and as a result they know exactly what it means to be in their situations. Not only are they tutors but they are also mentors and they can assist you throughout the course of the year as they have done for me. AVANCETUTORS is extremely capable and dedicated and it can cater to all abilities, ensuring that you reach your full potential. I have achieved exceptional grades over the course of this year and I would strongly recommend AVANCETUTORS for your studies.

I found out about Avance Tutors not long after the first week of uni by the pamphlets the tutors themselves were handing out after lectures. I didnít see any harm in searching new ways to get as much help as I could because I knew that uni work was a huge step up from college. I attended the first Avance session with some curiosity and doubt whether they would be helpful or not with my studies. Now I look back and I can confidently say that Avance has really helped me get the most out of the first year study at this university. I really enjoyed the study environment and structure the tutors had set out for us each session. On average there would be around ten or more people attending the tutorial and two or three tutors. Each session the tutors would first go through the notes they prepared earlier on one particular subject/paper as well as keeping a relaxed and friendly environment for the students to ask questions at any time. The tutors were always time-efficient and would mainly go over the most important concepts to make sure the students understood the big pictures of the topics. I found this very useful as it allowed me to recap on the concepts I might have missed in the lectures but more importantly it allowed me to maximize the results of my own studies focusing on the really important matters. Last year Avance tutors mainly focused on the core papers (biosic107, chem.110 poplhlth111 and medsci 142) and also a couple of other papers that students found challenging such as physics170 paper and biosci106. I was able to work around my own study time schedule with Avance tutors, attending only the sessions that I personally felt the need to attend. The tutors were really friendly and down to earth - I was able to ask questions whenever I needed to when doing my own studies. They acknowledged the fact that everyone has different study plans and different methods of learning and they really focused on encouraging each student to get the most out of their tight study schedule. This year I am privileged enough to get in to the course Iíve always wanted to study since the start of uni. Over the last year I have somewhat matured, from being a nervous first year student to a little more confident second year student, in the way I study and manage my time and part of that is definitely due to the help, encouragement and friendship from the team of Avance tutors. They provided a fantastic opportunity to deepen my knowledge and also to make a great group of friends that would have been hard to make in such a competitive environment of first year biomed. Thank you Avance tutors! I only wish you the best with the following years to come.

Anura helped me massively for my IGCSE Physics. I went from a 59% to an A* in around 5 weeks.

He organized lessons well and explained things with a lot of clarity. Without him I would of almost certainly failed the subject.

Highly Recommended.

Amir is a great and responsible tutor. He's very patient and explains things clearly in an amiable & enjoyable way. He didn't "bombard" me with theory waffle; instead his is learning by doing. I really like his excellent, useful tips & tricks in solving the problems. (I PASSED my math test ^.^)
