SKILLS

I have had previous tutoring experience (tutoring for high school and intermediate level students) and from this experience, I have learnt that I am passionate about the teaching field and inspiring students to help them succeed. I am highly motivated and knowledgeable in English and Ancient History and have great fluency in comprehension, making it easy for me to relate to any student in any age group in spite of their learning ability. I am also highly organised and self-motivated as during my time at university, I was a driven writer for Craccum (the University of Auckland magazine) submitting creative pieces, as well as journalist reviews, frequently.

Furthermore, I have achieved good marks of 70% and upwards for academic essays and reports as further evidence of my written communication skills. In terms of my verbal communication skills, I am clear and eloquent and have no problem with speaking to groups as I have worked in group situations for University projects.

Overall, I am keen to meet and work with students and help them reach their full potential in English. I am committed in ensuring that they are motivated and inspired to learn and explore. Moreover, I am a hard worker, creative, work well under pressure and always ensure to meet deadlines. I am very enthusiastic to jump start my teaching career with the hopes of encouraging and influencing students to strive for their best.

Description:
I graduated in Translation and Interpretation at Centre for Translation Studies Milan and further qualified in Translation at Université Marc Bloch Strasbourg.

I left university in 2001 to work as a free-lance translator for various publishers. I also did sub-contract work for an agency involved in making subtitles for films, TV series for the DVD market and subtitles for productions for SKY TV.

In 2007 I entered into teaching Italian to foreigners living in Milan. This involved an intensive training course in teaching and a certificate awarded by International House, Milan.

In 2013 I was also awarded a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) by the University of Cambridge.

I use a communicative method, which is student centered and where the target language is used from the first lesson.

Starting from a context, students learn new vocabulary, then reading a text or listening to a dialogue they find out about grammar or other aspects of the language. Written and oral practice follow.

This method is both very effective and fun, we won't just study grammar and write, there will be lots of games and conversation involved.

I also help younger learners with homeworks and uni students with preparation for exams and proof-reading of assignments.

I can visit the students in their homes or we can find a convenient location half way.
