BMus (Hons) Classical Performance 2014

Member of New Zealand Asia Pacific Musicians Association 2015
Associate Member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand 2016

I started learning piano at 4 years old. During University, I studied piano under Gian Franco Ricci, Stephen de Pledge and Qu Yong. I also have specialised in music education and studio pedagogy.
I am enthusiastic in teaching and have strong sense of responsibility. I recommend learning step by step as I believe learning, enjoying, and being influenced are most important. I also like to be challenged. In 2016, I took over a student who was skipping from grade 5 to grade 8 (ABRSM piano), and we only had 3 months to work on the pieces and aural. With my practice plans and his hard effort he passed with Merit as a good result. I am confident in teaching beginners and experienced with grade exams. I like to influence pupils and create an atmosphere of learning through discovery. I enjoy the process of passing my experience and knowledge to other people, see them improve, and share their growth while growing with them.

I learnt violin for 12 years from when I was 3. How I teach:
I enjoy making music and working with children and adults at all ages that range from beginners to advanced students.
I teach the classical technique of violin playing and I work with the Suzuki Method. I also teach the accompanying music theory.
I tailor the choice of music and the way of teaching to the needs and interests of my students.
I introduce my students to musical interaction at an early stage and let them play pieces together.
I think that apart from professional teaching and learning, playing an instrument must be fun and my students definitely enjoy playing the violin.
I started playing the violin at the age of 5 and I studied the violin at College of Music in Lübeck, Germany. I have more than 30 years violin teaching experience.
I have successfully taught and motivated students at all ages and levels both in Germany and here in New Zealand. My youngest student is 3,5 years old, the oldest one is 61 years old. Some of my students are beginners with no background in music, some are experienced musicians.

In tutoring...

My apparent natural connection to children is helpful in communicating difficult concepts - that which I like doing.

IMPORTANT: I have a MUSIC STUDIO equipped with a 6'1 KAWAI GRAND PIANO RX3. This is in Grafton (near the auckland hospital).

English & Maths were (and are) my favourite subjects because I can communicate various ideas effortlessly - and to do so especially in teaching English & Maths makes it easier for the students to understand.
I speak many languages, so I am familiar with crossing barriers.
-Great for second language students.-
[Please note that the teaching fee IS negotiable.]

Hello! Just let me say, I LOVE TEACHING and EXPLAINING CONCEPTS: the more CHALLENGING, the BETTER - in teaching, my greatest achievement comes when my student UNDERSTANDS, DEMONSTRATES and MANIPULATES such concepts, APPLYING them to different situations, in REAL-LIFE or simply on paper for exams.

Expect to be tutored in a fun & friendly environment, though if you wish, I can also be firm (eg. playful kids). I am professional in any case, and my teaching-style adapts to the student on a case-by-case basis.
