| Tutoring Experience: I did relief teaching in schools in San Diego and Orange Counties, California from 2007 through 2012, as well as during 2016 - 2017. During the same time period I did one-on-one tutoring for a company that offered free, publicly funded tutoring to students in low-decile schools in San Diego County. I am from San Diego, California and have gained a decade of experience in teaching and tutoring, both in California and in Aotearoa New Zealand. I have three tertiary qualifications and am a registered teacher in New Zealand (#321324, confirmation available via the New Zealand Teachers Council website) and have over 1100 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience. In California, I worked as a day relief teacher and as a tutor for an SES provider, offering free tutoring to students in low-decile schools. In Aotearoa New Zealand, I have worked as a relief teacher and full-time teacher, as well as a tutor for Kip McGrath Education Centres. I am currently teaching full-time at a primary school in East Auckland. I believe that students, particularly children, need a balance between fun and challenging activities. I utilise different methods across visual, auditory and kinaesthetic domains. I believe that tutors should give encouraging and specific feedback as the lesson progresses, and that the ultimate goal is to empower students to higher levels of understanding, competency and knowledge. During the lesson I require at least one other adult aged 16-years-old or older to be in the area if the student is under sixteen years of age (unless if services are being offered in a public area, such as a library). During school holiday periods I may be available during week day mornings and afternoons. Before tutoring begins information is collected to assist the student. This information consists of a diagnostic assessment as well as talking with the student and/or the student’s caregivers. From this information, a detailed learning plan is created that aligns with portions of the specific subject in the New Zealand Curriculum. At this point we will also agree on a location where lessons will take place at. Contact information for students and/or their caretakers is also collected. Each student or group of students has a monthly student roster (MSR) for each month of each year. At the beginning of, throughout and end of each tutoring session an entry in the MSR showing information about the lesson is completed. At the conclusion of a lesson students or their caretakers sign the entry. At the conclusion of tutoring services a summative assessment and final report is given to the student and/or his/her caretakers.
